How to be More Trustworthy

{ 2 comments }

In case you haven’t picked up on this fact, I’ll share with you that I love learning. With the amount of content on the internet there seems to always be an interesting article or video available that prompts me to do some deeper thinking and learning about myself.

Not only do I like learning more about myself, but I also enjoy sharing these resources and my thoughts with you so you can have your own learning moments.

Today I am sharing a video by Brene Brown that I found on Oprah’s SuperSoul.tv

The Anatomy of Trust

In this video Brene Brown discusses the anatomy of trust and breaks trust down into seven distinct components.

The acronym that she uses to remember the components is BRAVING:

Boundaries

Reliability

Accountability

(The) Vault

Integrity

Non-Judgment

Generosity

She also discusses the importance of building trust not just in relationships with others but also with yourself. In fact she states that you cannot build trust with others if you cannot trust yourself.

Do You Trust Yourself?

Now I don’t believe that trust is a yes or no thing.

Sure there are people in your life who you may not trust at all and others who you trust completely, but I’m willing to bet there are also people who fall somewhere in between those two extremes.

And when it comes to trusting yourself, chances are you are in that in between space.

How to be More Trustworthy

Applying her definition of trust I looked at my ability to trust myself and asked myself in which of the seven components did I trust myself the least?

In this 6 minute video I share the answer. I also share my insights on how to be more trustworthy.

Rather than being hard on yourself if you find you are not as trustworthy as you would like, instead look for the cause behind the actions that challenge you to trust yourself.

One of the traits that is essential in your journey to create your Custom Built Life™ is the ability to see your potential for personal growth from a place of non-judgment and then to take responsibility and do what is necessary to experience that growth and improvement.

In fact, the most exciting part about creating your Custom Built Life isn’t actually the life that you build it is experiencing the person you become as you build that life!

Your Assignment

Look at the seven components of trust and determine which is the most challenging with regard to trusting yourself.

Then look within for the cause of that challenge. Is there a way that you can improve in this aspect of trusting yourself?

Share your insights in the comments below and let’s start a conversation about trust. The more we trust ourselves the easier it is to find the courage to make the changes we desire in our life.

Warmly,
Stacy and Dave

Bonnie, thank you for your kind words. I am so glad you found the video worthwhile! Truthfully I find there are very few things in life where one size fits all, and yet people are often trying to convince us that there is only one right way to do things. That’s why it is important to be aware of what “rules” you are following and to make your own determination if that rule (or size) works for you and your life.
