Why More Isn’t the Path to a Happier Life

Today I have another video for you. You will notice that with this video I had to find some inside recording space. My outside recording studio, also known as my screened in porch, is getting a little cool necessitating the move inside. I miss my outside studio already!

A Squash and a Squeeze

This video was inspired by a children’s picture book. Yup a children’s book.

The story in the book made me think about how many people approach unhappiness in their life. Watch the 5 minute video to see what I mean.

Squeezing the Happiness out of Life

So many people think that they can escape the unhappiness in their life by adding more stuff, more accomplishments, more opportunities, or more activities to their life. They believe that more will make them feel better. Their lives start to look like a house on an episode of “Hoarders” – every minute gets scheduled with some type of doing leaving no room at all for just being.

Sometimes more does feel better… for a little bit.

But the truth is that new electronic gadget will only make you feel like you have a happier life until another newer version is available. They will make you feel better only until the newness wears off.

That’s because most of the new you are adding has nothing to do with you. You were just following someone else’s lead or someone else’s rule about what THEY thought was right for you.

Create Space for What Matters Most in Life

To find your own answers regarding what will fulfill you, what will make your heart sing, and what will bring you true joy requires things that “more” can’t bring you.

It requires space.

It requires time to think and feel the true desires that YOU have, not the ones other people told you were the right desires.

It requires listening to that quiet little voice that is so easily lost when your life is full of more.

Your Assignment

Start listening to your true desires. Put a temporary hold on adding more to your life. (Because let’s be honest, if that was working for you, you wouldn’t be reading this right now.)

Create time to determine what will give you a better life and what will make you feel better. Creating this time may require you to release some of the more that you know is not working. Do that if you need to.

And if you would like support in this process, schedule a time to get on the phone with me. We can have a virtual coffee date. You can tell me what your vision for your life is or where your challenges are and we can see if I am the right person to lend you the support you are looking for.

Now, over to you. Please share your experiences, thoughts or ideas about your “more” and discovering a life of joy.

Warmly,
Stacy & Dave

Loved your message in this video, Stacey! Tho I must say I have no idea how this may relate to me. . . NOT! So many messages for us big kids in little kids’ books and movies. We need to listen more closely.
    Thanks!

Michele, if this book was written about your life it would say “bring in the tom cat, bring in the mama cat, bring in the kittens…” LOL! I am glad you found value in the message. It is amazing how many messages pertinent to adults can be found in materials geared to kids.
