A Peek Inside my Custom Built Life™

{ 2 comments }

I am bringing you something different today.

Normally I like to share strategies around how to design and create your Custom Built Life™. I share what has worked for me and what works for my clients.

But I have come to realize that you might think that I am in some way different than you. That maybe I am more capable in one area or smarter in another and that this difference translates to me having a smoother, easier journey toward my Custom Built Life.

Or maybe you think I have already arrived! That my work is done and now I just get to bask in the fruits of my labor.

Let’s Dispel the Myths

I realize that it would be easy for you to put me up on a pedestal and then use that as a reason to keep you from working on creating your own Custom Built Life.

But the truth is I am only a few steps ahead of you on this journey. And it is a journey that is never complete, because it is human nature to create new goals and desire to reach the next level once you have attained your current goal.

A Peek inside my Custom Built Life

So today I am giving you a short peek inside my life.

In this 5 minute video I share what life has been like in the Rowan household over the last month (although I forgot to mention that for the last two and a half weeks we have been generously sharing germs with each other so that not one of us missed out on experiencing this cold!).

I talk about the type of decisions we face and the challenge of finding balance. And I share where things aren’t quite under control and what I have decided to do about that. (It might not be what you think!!)

The Imperfect Journey

I have come to realize that the journey toward a Custom Built Life is an imperfect one. Often it can look messy and even slightly chaotic!

It is also filled with daily choices.

Sometimes it is obvious that one choice will lead you toward the life you desire, while the other choice will lead you away from what you want. But other times the choice isn’t as clear. Choice “A” might lead you toward one desired aspect while Choice “B” leads you toward a different desired aspect thereby complicating the decision.

In these instances, realize that the blessing is in having the freedom to make the decision. Do your best to set aside any concerns about making the “right” choice and focus on enjoying the ride!

Your Assignment

Share with us the types of daily decisions you find yourself facing as you build a life customized to you. Which decisions are easy to make? Which ones do you struggle with?

Let’s start a conversation in the comments below and support each other through the chaos that sometimes erupts as we mold our life to fit our vision.

Warmly,
Stacy and Dave

I love the idea of following your IDEA 🙂 So often we follow or do what we think we “should” be doing, and this video has reminded me to do what I want to do once in awhile. Thank you for that Stacy – I needed this mindshift today!

I’m so glad you liked the video Diane! Some of us have a very over-active responsibility gene and feel we must complete all of the “shoulds” before we take time to do anything fun or something that recharges us. But the longer we put off the things we really like to do, the longer the shoulds take and the more drained we become. And if we are not careful we wake up one day empty of energy and creativity and full of resentment! And I don’t think anyone wants that in their Custom Built Life!

I highly recommend doing something you want to do EVERY day and do it early in the day so it doesn’t get pushed aside by other obligations. You don’t have to allot a long time to the thing you want to do – some days it may only be 5 minutes. But that 5 minutes has the power to completely change the rest of your day.
